Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to deliver some bad news for Tottenham, as the Premier League side eye a move for Angel Di Maria.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that Spurs are considering a move for the Argentina international when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June.

The 34-year-old will be leaving the Parc des Princes this summer, after the French giants opted not to activate a one-year extension option in his contract.

According to Romano, Di Maria wants to continue playing in Europe, which – at first glance – seemed to be positive news for Tottenham.

However, the reliable Italian journalist added that the South American winger – who rates Cristian Romero highly – is now “progressing in talks” with Juventus.

You can see what Romano posted on Twitter in full below.

As you can see, wherever he decides to go next, Di Maria intends to see out his career back in Argentina, rather than one of Europe’s top five leagues.

So far this season, the Rosario-born forward has scored four goals in 30 appearances, while also providing eight assists playing under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham must ignore Angel Di Maria

In our view, Tottenham shouldn’t be too upset about Juventus taking the initiative in talks with Di Maria, as he isn’t someone they need.

Of course, he has enjoyed a spectacular career, and in his prime, the Argentine was arguably among the top ten players on the planet.

Now, however, his glittering career is drawing to a close, and Spurs need players of a completely different profile.

Fabio Paratici must find younger talent who will run through brick walls for Antonio Conte, such as Dejan Kulusevski.

Di Maria is also said to earn £138,000-a-week, a salary which Tottenham certainly don’t need to take on, especially with Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Kulusevski in attack.

Nevertheless, keep an eye on this saga, in case Di Maria’s negotiations with Juventus break down for whatever reason.
