Celtic fancy signing Ben Crompton after the Shrewsbury Town talent decided to turn down a new contract and leave the League One club.

Celtic have regained the Scottish Premiership title from Rangers and will now seek further reinforcements this summer.

Whilst first-team additions will be the focus, Celtic will naturally have one eye on potential talents for the future.

The likes of Luca Connell, Bosun Lawal, Tobi Oluwayemi and Joey Dawson have all arrived from English clubs in recent times.

There could now be another addition with Crompton believed to be on the Celtic radar.

Celtic are interested in signing teenager Crompton having been tracking his progress with Shrewsbury.

The Shropshire Star claim that a number of clubs are keen on Crompton but Celtic are the only one named.

It’s stated that Crompton has turned down a new contract with Shrewsbury and will be on the move this summer.

Shrewsbury only offered short-term deals to Crompton and fellow youngster Callum Wilson, but both have rejected the deals in favour of finding longer-term contracts elsewhere.

Both players wanted to stay at Shrewsbury to push for first-team action but the contract on offer clearly wasn’t enough.

Celtic may now be able to swoop in and take Crompton to Glasgow, placing him into their developmental ranks.

This would give Crompton the long-term stability he wants whilst building him up for first-team action.

Crompton, who is just 18, was a midfield player in the early stages of his career but has become more of a centre back at Shrewsbury.

Crompton was even brought up to train with the Shrewsbury first-team but wasn’t given his debut.

The teenager is now looking for a new start and that could come with Celtic as the Bhoys look to add another talented prospect.
