Liverpool’s massive victory last night was somewhat tarnished by a Joe Gomez injury in the first half.

Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up a 2-1 win away to Southampton to keep alive their Premier League title hopes, moving one point behind Manchester City with one game to go.

Gomez went off injured shortly before the half-time whistle and the Liverpool manager revealed after the game that the 24-year-old defender was in pain.

The England international has endured horrendous luck on the injury front since joining the Anfield outfit for £3.5 million – and now spends a decent chunk of time in the gym as a result of his fitness history.

And former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has told BBC Radio 5 Live that it would be ‘absolutely tragic’ if his old teammate is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines, adding that he isn’t optimistic after seeing him walk down the tunnel at St Mary’s.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It doesn’t look great for Joe Gomez walking down the tunnel. I’m not sure whether it’s a twist or his muscle. Hopefully it’s minor. It’ll be absolutely tragic [if he’s a serious injury]. He’s a top professional. He’s had devastating luck with serious injuries.”

Is Joe Gomez fit for the Champions League final?

Liverpool’s biggest game of the season is their last game of the season, a clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28.

Paris plays host to both European heavyweights and it seems reasonable to ask whether the Joe Gomez injury is going to keep him out until then.

As mentioned, Klopp’s post-match comments don’t offer much by way of information, presumably because there isn’t much data on the situation at the moment.

Although Gomez probably wouldn’t have started the Champions League final anyway, the Liverpool boss could definitely do with him at some point in the game and therefore it would certainly be a blow if he’s unavailable.
