West Ham United released Sorba Thomas – and Huddersfield Town’s ‘magic’ man is closing in on promotion to the Premier League.

Huddersfield were in action on Monday night, facing Luton Town in the second leg of their Championship playoff semi-final.

The tie was on a knife-edge after a 1-1 draw in the first leg but Huddersfield prevailed at home.

Jordan Rhodes bagged a late winner to send Huddersfield to their second Championship playoff final in the last five years.

They will now face Nottingham Forest or Sheffield United at Wembley, with the Terriers now just one game away from a Premier League return.

Rhodes grabbed the glory with the winning goal but it was another assist for Huddersfield star Thomas.

Thomas whipped a superb cross into the back post and Rhodes managed to divert the ball into the net to give Huddersfield the win.

That’s now 12 assists for the season for Thomas as well as adding three goals for Huddersfield.

Thomas returned as a substitute for Huddersfield against Luton on Friday after nearly a month out.

The 23-year-old has been a revelation this season and is now so close to having a chance to show West Ham what they’re missing.

Thomas was on the books at West Ham as a kid but was released before turning professional.

Thomas ended up dropping into non-league football with Boreham Wood but has worked his way back up brilliantly.

Now a Wales international, Thomas has bounced back incredibly from his West Ham release and could face them as a Premier League player next season.

Rhodes was asked about Thomas after Monday’s final whistle and told Sky Sports that he thinks Thomas has a ‘bit of magic’ in him that can be produced at any time.

“He was great tonight, he’s been doing it all season,” said Rhodes. “He’s been a breath of fresh air. It was great to have him back on the field on Friday night. He’s got that bit of magic that he can produce out of nothing,” he added.

Thomas may well have wanted to get back to the Premier League one day after his West Ham release and he may now be 90 minutes away from showing the Hammers his magic up close and personal.
