Jeunes Footeux report that West Ham, Aston Villa and Newcastle want to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix. The Frenchman has been impressive in the Bundesliga, since joining the German side in August 2020.
Lacroix, 22, broke through at Sochaux and after just 28 senior outings for the French side, Wolfsburg brough him to Germany. He has since clocked up 72 appearances, including six Champions League games this season.
Although impressive in the Bundesliga, one issue has creeped into his game and that is a lack of discipline. This season, he has already earned himself three red cards and six yellows. Perhaps a consideration for the trio keen.
Jeunes Footeux report that West Ham, Villa and Newcastle are all looking at a potential move for Lacroix. They report that a deal will cost north of £17million, for a player previously eyed by Tottenham and Chelsea.
Certainly, a player with potential and lots of quality. His blistering pace has seen the Bundesliga website compare him to Rio Ferdinand. He is quoted as saying: ““I’m quick, I’m strong. I’m not bad with the ball at my feet.”
Villa, West Ham and Newcastle want Lacroix: What is a fair price?
West Ham want a defender – with Angelo Ogbonna turning 34 soon and Issa Diop struggling. Newcastle will want competition for Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar, with Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez likely to go.
Villa have Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, but lack the top-quality competition too. Mings has struggled at times this season and Konsa has not been as good as he was under Dean Smith. So, Lacroix makes sense.
But what price is fair? Sky Germany, as per BuliNews, claim that Lacroix has a £34million release clause in his contract. If clubs can agree a deal between £20million and £25million, then it suits all involved.
