Former Leeds United ace Barry Douglas is celebrating a title win just as the Whites struggle against relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds still aren’t safe from relegation but did pick up a dramatic late point against Brighton and Hove Albion today.

Pascal Struijk’s last-gasp leveller handed Leeds a 1-1 draw against the Seagulls, sending Elland Road wild.

Everton’s defeat to Brentford and Burnley’s 1-0 loss at Tottenham certainly helps the Leeds cause.

With just one game to go though – compared to two each for Everton and Burnley – Leeds are still right up against it.

This isn’t how Leeds expected to see their season pan out, and seeing a former player lift a league title won’t make it feel any better.

Whilst Leeds continue to scrap for points, former Whites left back Barry Douglas has been enjoying his time over in Poland.

The Scot joined Leeds back in the summer of 2018 and impressed in his first season with five assists in 26 games.

Injuries started to mount up though, limiting Douglas to just 15 Championship appearances as Leeds went up in 2020.

Douglas was then flogged on loan to Blackburn Rovers but was let go by Leeds last summer.

Douglas made an emotional move to Lech Poznan having spent three years there between 2013 and 2016.

Lech were more than happy to take Douglas back on a free transfer last summer and he has been in and out of the side this season due to Pedro Rebocho’s form.

Lech beat rivals Warta Poznan 2-1 on Saturday to clinch the league title with a game to spare, with an unused substitute.

Douglas has taken to Twitter to show his celebrations, reminiscent of the ones he enjoyed with Leeds in 2020.

The left back will no doubt cheer Leeds on against Brentford next weekend, with survival meaning just as much to the Whites as this title does to Lech and Douglas.
