Reported Arsenal target and Granit Xhaka’s international teammate, Manuel Akanji, is considering a move to the Premier League, according to Sport 1.

The report has claimed that Borussia Dortmund are willing to sell Akanji, who is open to a transfer to a Premier League club in the summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, Sport Bild claimed that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are competing with Manchester United for the signing of the 26-year-old midfielder.

Akanji plays with Arsenal midfielder Xhaka for the Switzerland national football team.

Do Arsenal need Manuel Akanji?

In our opinion, there is no need for Arsenal to sign Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is a good defender, but we do not think that the Gunners need another player in his position.

Ben White and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs at Arsenal.

Rob Holding is another option for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who will also have William Saliba at his disposal next season.

Akanji made 25 starts and one substitute appearance in the Bundesliga this season.

The Dortmund no. 16 scored one goal in those games.

Akanji, who is a centre-back by trade but can also operate as a right-back, played five times in the Champions League and once in the Europa League this season.
