Sol Campbell has suggested that teams like West Ham United are ‘watching’ Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, as he told talkSPORT.

The former England defender labelled the Hale-End academy star as a ‘top, top’ player for Arsenal – recent rumours have suggested that West Ham are ‘front of the queue’ to sign the hitman.

Nketiah is out-of-contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and, as things stand, he will be heading for the exit door as a free transfer.

For large parts of the campaign, the 22-year-old hasn’t been a regular under Mikel Arteta, although, he has recently scored a number of crucial goals.

Campbell stated that Nketiah is a player that is ‘growing in confidence’ and a player that he rates highly.

“There are a couple of teams watching Nketiah,” said Campbell. “They are watching his progress.

“They are watching if he gets unhappy with the scenario. West Ham are floating around at the same time.

“But he’s a top, top player. He is growing in confidence. And that’s what centre-forward needs. He’s a young lad and an Arsenal man.”

Arsenal need a striker regardless of Nketiah’s future

Champions League football or no Champions League football. Nketiah stays or Nketiah leaves. Alexandre Lacazette signs a new deal or heads for the exit door.

Mikel Arteta needs another number nine to lead his forward line next season and he probably needs someone for the long term.

Now, Nketiah could be that player, but they can’t rely upon someone that has never hit ten Premier League goals in a single season.

The Englishman will, of course, feel that he hasn’t had the proper opportunity, but that’s an area of the pitch Arsenal really need to sort out.
