Jeunes Footeux claim Tottenham and Wolves have been joined by Everton, Leicester and Sevilla in the race for Sporting Lisbon star Joao Palhinha. The Portugal midfielder is being heavily linked with a move to English football.

Palhinha, 26, first found himself in the crosshairs of Premier League clubs after impressing at Euro 2020 for his country. He has spent the last nine years on the books at Sporting – but has only recently broken into the side.

He has emerged as first choice in the last two seasons, clocking up 75 of his 93 Sporting appearances – and it has not gone unnoticed. Last week, reports stated that Tottenham were preparing an offer to sign the Portugal star.

Now, it appears Spurs have competition. Wolves have also been previously linked, but JF report that Everton, Leicester and Sevilla have also thrown their hat into the ring to land the £30million-rated midfielder this summer.

Everton and Leicester join Palhinha race: Tottenham his best move

The issue being with a move to Everton, Leicester or Wolves is that the chances are, he will not be in European football next season. Wolves have a chance of making the Conference League, but he will want higher.

Palhinha was excellent in the Champions League this season and he will want Europa League football at the very least. Tottenham can offer that, while Villarreal are also in danger of missing out on Europe this term.

Would he start for Tottenham? He would certainly give excellent competition to both Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But with Europe likely, there will be plenty of games to go round – and rotation.
