West Ham United want to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos – but the Arsenal-owned star could could instead stay with Stuttgart.

Mavropanos joined Arsenal early in 2018, arriving as one of the final signings of the Arsene Wenger era.

It was Sven Mislintat who really drove Arsenal’s interest in Mavropanos though, landing him from PAS Giannina.

Mavropanos only played seven Premier League games for Arsenal. In 2020, Mislintat struck to sign him again, this time for Stuttgart.

Mavropanos is only on loan at Stuttgart for now and his permanent status is up in the air ahead of the summer window.

West Ham United want to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos

Football London reported in April that West Ham are set to compete with Borussia Dortmund for Mavropanos.

Stuttgart can sign Mavropanos permanently for just £2.5million thanks to a clause in his loan from Arsenal.

That agreement has baffled German media with many stunned by Mavropanos this season – even with Stuttgart battling against relegation.

Stuttgart still have a chance to stay up on the last day and that could impact the future of Mavropanos.

Bild report that West Ham have registered their interest and Mavropanos could cost around €20million (£17million).

It’s added that Mavropanos does also see a future with Stuttgart and would only leave on two conditions.

One is that a top club comes in for him. Whether West Ham fit that bill remains to be seen, but Europa League semi-finalists are not something to sniff at.

The other is that Stuttgart go down. Mavropanos won’t want to play in Germany’s second tier if West Ham and Dortmund want him.

West Ham need a new defender

Mavropanos is just one of a number of defenders being linked with West Ham.

Angelo Ogbonna ỉn’t getting any younger and is coming off a major injury whilst Issa Drop’s future is unclear.

West Ham look set to invest in a new centre back this summer, adding competition for Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson.

The Greek ace could fit the bill for David Moyes – all whilst Arsenal are left to think about the £15million transfer difference.

Seeing Mavropanos move for just £2.5million and then be sold for £17million would be galling for Arsenal, but West Ham could benefit.
