90Min claim West Ham are in talks to re-sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer this summer, after Newcastle baulked at his wage demands. Lingard is believed to want as much as Kieran Trippier gets at the Toon.
Lingard, 29, is out of contract at Manchester United and will be leaving Old Trafford when his deal ends on June 30. Newcastle had been believed to be red-hot favourites to sign Lingard – but have now cooled their interest.
West Ham, meanwhile, remain interested in Lingard after his loan spell during the second half of last season. In that time, Lingard scored nine goals and laid on five assists in 16 games – but he did not earn a new United deal.
The new report states West Ham are in talks with the agents of Lingard to bring him back and are now ahead of Newcastle in the race to get him. Milan, Inter, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also looking to get Lingard.
West Ham in talks for Lingard: Newcastle could regret decision
Lingard has proven, while on loan at West Ham, that he is capable of going to a new side and slotting right in. Proven in the Premier League, and if given the confidence, he can thrive. He is still in his twenties.
He would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle, given they need a winger on the right flank. So, given they have decided to overlook a move for Lingard, then are they making a mistake? West Ham’s remaining interest suggests so.
