Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Jonathan Woodgate has been full of praise for Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.
It looks as though the Reds won’t win the Premier League title this season after yet another standout performance from Manchester City against Wolves, but they gave Pep Guardiola’s side a real run for their money, and Alisson has played a massive part in that.
Indeed, the Brazilian’s shot-stopping ability has saved the Reds countless points, while his work with his feet is equally as valuable.
Woodgate has had nothing but good things to say about Alisson, stating that he never gets flustered and never panics, even when he’s made a mistake.
What’s been said?
Woodgate hailed Alisson.
“If you see him in one vs one situations as well, he’s one that never panics, he makes the right decisions. He makes important saves and what I like about Alisson as well is that he never gets flustered, he’ll make mistakes, but he’ll still demand the ball. Some players will hide in that position, but Alisson gets back on it and starts dictating and making Liverpool play again,” Woodgate said.

Unflappable
For all of Alisson’s technical excellence, his best attribute may well be his mentality.
Despite the fact he’s clearly a world-class goalkeeper, Alisson does have a mistake in him. He was at fault for a couple of goals as Liverpool lost to Manchester City 4-1 last season, while he also made a horrific error against Leicester early in his Premier League career.
However, while some goalkeepers would allow these mistakes to affect their games, Alisson is quick to forget his errors and continues to be the risk-taking, confident goalkeeper that he is.
The Brazilian’s mentality is absolutely elite, and as a goalkeeper, that’s incredibly important.
