Aston Villa want to sign RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer – and the midfielder has admitted just how much he loves Steven Gerrard.
Villa have been through ups and downs under Gerrard. It’s hard to know what direction Villa are going in after appointing Gerrard in November.
Gerrard needs backing though and summer signings will be absolutely vital if Villa are to make the progress Gerrard wants.
A midfielder appears to be a top priority for Villa and a host of names have been linked with joining.
Yves Bissouma, Kalvin Phillips and Boubacar Kamara have all been suggested. Now you can add RB Leipzig ace Laimer to the Aston Villa wish list.
Aston Villa want to sign RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer
90Min report that Villa are in the race to sign Laimer this summer despite interest from perceivably loftier clubs.
It’s stated that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all fancy signing Laimer.
Yet Villa are right there in the mix too and have been making checks on the Austrian star ahead of the summer window.
Laimer is out of contract in 2023 and Leipzig may choose to sell now rather than see him leave for nothing in a year.
Laimer is bound to attract interest as one of the top midfielders in the Bundesliga and Villa seemingly think there is a bargain in the offing.

What has Laimer said about Villa boss Gerrard?
It may sound like Villa have little chance of winning this battle. Many of the clubs involved are enormous and some will have Champions League action.
Yet if anybody can convince Laimer to join Villa, it’s surely boss Gerrard.
Laimer has been quoted as saying that Gerrard was his idol growing up and he loved watching him in action for Liverpool.
“The way he played football, the passion and the emotions – that’s what I was always able to identify with,” said Laimer.
You can see elements of Gerrard in Laimer’s style of play, though maybe without the goalscoring ability.
Laimer has admired Gerrard from afar for a long time and may now have the chance to play for him.
That has to be appealing to Laimer, even if the Austrian has attractive offers from elsewhere this summer.
