David James has stated that Sadio Mane should leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich because it ‘suits his overall career’, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.
Bayern Munich are interested in signing Mane from Liverpool
At 30-years-old, James thinks Mane is at the peak of his career and now is the time for him to leave for the German champions – there are suggestions the player’s agent, Hasan Salihamidzic, met with Bayern’s Sporting Director.
Ever since winning the Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegal superstar has taken his game to another level on the domestic scene.
That was proven on Tuesday night when he scored the winning goal during Liverpool’s nervy 2-1 win over Aston Villa – and he’s a player Jordan Henderson claimed is ‘always incredible’.
But with these transfer rumours regarding Bayern surfacing. ex-England goalkeeper James had this message for him.
“I was just looking at his achievements,” said James. “I think the FA Cup is the only trophy he hasn’t won in England.
“You add the Champions League, the Africa Cup of Nations, then this guy is in the purple patch of his career. I think he is still the record-holder for the quickest hat-trick in the Premier League as well.
“If you have an optimum time where you can make the most of a move, given that he isn’t English then, therefore, he’s a traveller.
“The idea of going to Germany and playing for Bayern Munich would be something that suits his overall career.
“Now is the time to do it for Sadio Mane as much as I know Liverpool fans will be saying ‘no I want him to stay till the end of his career’. If he has a perfect opportunity, then this season will be it.”

It could be argued that Mane is Liverpool’s most important attacking player right now.
Whilst Mo Salah tops the Premier League goalscoring charts with 22 and will possibly walk away with the Golden Boot.
Since February, Mane has scored 13 goals for the Reds, that’s six more than his nearest teammate.
Either way, his success with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, added with Luis Diaz’s arrival, has taken his game to another level.
