Premier League giants Arsenal want Marcel Sabitzer but the Bundesliga champion has no plans to leave Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, the Austrian’s agent tells BILD.
2021/22 was, Roger Wittmann says, the ‘worst season of Sabitzer’s career’. It’s difficult to disagree.
The former RB Leipzig captain started just eight league games as Bayern secured a tenth successive Bundesliga title, providing one goal and one assist, while his relationship with former Red Bull Arena boss Julian Nagelsmann has counted for little in the face of such serious competition at the heart of FC Hollywood’s star-studded central midfield.
And, when Sabitzer has played, he’s not exactly covered himself in glory either.
“He was a luxury transfer. He hasn’t improved the squad in the way we might have imagined,” Bayern’s former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said recently.
Arsenal want Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich
According to BILD, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have renewed their interest in a long-term transfer target, in the hope that Bayern would be willing to part with Sabitzer just 12 months after raiding their Bundesliga rivals to the tune of £14 million.
But a 28-year-old midfielder renowned for his never-say-die spirit is not going to throw up his hands and accept defeat so easily. Opportunities like this do not come around all that often and Sabitzer is determined to ensure that the chance to make his mark at a genuine superclub like Bayern Munich is not going to pass him by.
“We want a new start at FC Bayern and that has been decided. He’s staying,” says Roger Wittmann, Sabitzer’s agent. “He wants to really put his foot down in pre-season and show that he can do better.
“Marcel has made it clear that he is not satisfied with his performances this season. But several factors have also played a part.

“For Marcel, it was the worst season in his career. But Bayern also had a very difficult season. That makes the integration for a new player not easy. Everyone who knows Marcel knows how ambitious he is.

“He came as a leader from Leipzig and is now, of course, unhappy about the whole situation.”
A set-piece specialist who established himself as arguably the Bundesliga’s best midfielder outside of the Allianz Arena in recent seasons, Sabitzer produced seven assists and nine goals in his final campaign at Leipzig.
