Tottenham are reportedly pursuing a move to sign Atalanta winger Joakim Maehle, who has been in sparkling form for both club and country of late. So much so, he was described as “excellent” by Ian Wright at Euro 2020.

Maehle, 24, has been superb over the last couple of seasons. Joining in Atalanta in 2021 for £8.5million (Yahoo), he has shown versatility on either side of the defence – as well as sparkling for Denmark last summer.

Little surprise, with Tottenham needing new recruits on both the left and right of their defence. The Mail claims Tottenham are looking to bring in Maehle this summer, in what would be a reunion with Cristian Romero.

During Euro 2020, Wright was working for ITV and paid tribute to Maehle – claiming his performances had been “fantastic”, and that he had produced one of the passes of the tournament – his cross for Kasper Dolberg (below).

“Along with Spinazzola, Maehle has been fantastic in this tournament,” Wright said, as per the Mail. “‘He has scored the last couple of games but that is probably one of the passes of the tournament so far for me. “

Wright on Maehle: Tottenham would be signing ideal player

It is widely reported that Spurs will be looking to improve upon Emerson Royal, and their left wing-back options this summer. Royal has not impressed Antonio Conte and Matt Doherty has only just come good.

Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon have had their moments on the left but have not yet seemingly won the trust of Conte. So, being able to sign a player that can do both roles is ideal. Maehle is just what Tottenham need.
