CalcioMercato claim West Ham are taking a look at Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, ahead of the summer window. David Moyes is likely to be in the market for a central defender ahead of the 22-23 season.
Tapsoba, 23, has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent seasons – with Arsenal and Chelsea said to be interested last summer. Now, West Ham have thrown their hat into the ring for the African star.
A 26-time Burkina Faso international, Tapsoba has clocked up 89 games for Leverkusen since joining the club in January 2020 from Portuguese side Guimaraes. He has a contract at Leverkusen until the summer of 2026.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes described him as “dangerous” in an opposition box, too. West Ham are looking at a move, a player that the Express claims has a £44million release clause in his Leverkusen contract.
West Ham eye Tapsoba: He is just what Moyes needs in his defence
West Ham have solid options at centre-back. Craig Dawson is proving that age is just a number, becoming a top-level defender under Moyes. Kurt Zouma was a very strong signing from Chelsea last summer.
But Issa Diop’s form has been questionable and Angelo Ogbonna turns 34 this month. He has also spent the entirety of this season on the sidelines with a knee injury. They need a centre-back and Tapsoba is ideal.
