Leeds United’s defeat to Arsenal sees them enter the drop zone for the first time since October. Ivan Toney has rubbed salt in the wounds – reacting to a song sung by Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas after promotion in 2020.
The defeat sees Leeds sit in 18th place on 34 points, while Burnley sit ahead on goal difference. Everton have 35 points and have played a game less. With three games to play, Leeds find themselves in a real relegation mess.
That is without Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling or Stuart Dallas – who are all sidelined through injury. Leeds will be hoping to make it a third season in a row in the Premier League, but need points as soon as possible.
Back in 2020, after promotion, Cooper and Dallas were videoed singing “mind the gap, Thomas Frank” after Leeds gained promotion and Brentford failed to. Now, the tides have turned, and Toney has quoted the video.
Toney Tweet: Video comes back to bite Leeds as Brentford soar
Brentford have been superb this season, like Leeds were in their first season back in the Premier League. Leeds have suffered with enormous injuries, and a lack of spending last summer and in the January window.
It just so happens that Leeds are now behind Brentford – and the video has come back to bite Leeds. Now, Brentford and Toney could make it worse for Leeds, if they beat the Whites on the last day of the season – on May 22.
