According to TuttoB, Watford could now appoint Enzo Maresca to replace Roy Hodgson, after Sunderland and Celtic almost hired the 42-year-old.

What’s the story?

Well, the Italian could now be heading for the Premier League, as Watford have already made contact with Maresca.

It comes after Sunderland also made contact with him when searching for Lee Johnson’s replacement earlier this year, only to settle on Alex Neil.

Elsewhere, Celtic also considered hiring Maresca to replace Neil Lennon in 2021, but eventually offered the vacancy to Ange Postecoglou.

Now, he could take a job in the Premier League with Watford – although only for a brief period, as Crystal Palace could relegate the Hornets today.

TuttoB claim that Watford have already started talks with Maresca, and if he succeeds, those at Sunderland and Celtic might start to think they made a mistake.

Maresca has previously worked as No.2 to Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham, and also took charge of Manchester City’s Under-23 side.

Sunderland & Celtic should be satisfied

Having made that above point, Postecoglou is adored at Celtic Park, so those in Glasgow probably wouldn’t be filled with too much regret.

The Australian is on the verge of bringing the Scottish Premiership title back to Paradise, and has also beaten Rangers to the Scottish League Cup.

Postecoglou has done so while rebuilding the Bhoys into an exciting side, following the signings of players like Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota.

Those at the Stadium of Light should also be satisfied with their decision, as Neil has guided Sunderland to the play-offs, and they lost just one of their first 12 games under him in League One.

The Black Cats recorded a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the first leg of their play-off semi-final, so they are well placed for promotion.

Whatever happens with Maresca, Celtic and Sunderland should be pleased with their managerial selections.
