Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website that he may not use Roberto Firmino against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Klopp’s Liverpool will take on Tottenham at home in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Ahead of the game, Klopp has said that although Brazil international forward Firmino is training, he may leave out the £180,000-a-week (SalarySport) star against Spurs to make sure that he has fully recovered from injury and his match fitness.

Firmino is back in training at Liverpool following a short layoff due to a foot injury that he suffered against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals last month.

Klopp on Firmino for Liverpool v Tottenham

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Firmino on Friday: “I don’t know, but he is back in training, so now we have to make a decision about that.

“The foot thing didn’t let him do a lot. We had to let it settle and now we have to make sure that he has a few proper sessions.

“Obviously we have enough games still, so it’s very important that we have to make sure that we get him in the best possible shape.

“I didn’t make a decision but it might be possible, that it makes for him more sense just to train through the weekend and be then a big step closer for Tuesday, for example. But let’s see. Yesterday he was in training, was great.”

Leaving out

In our opinion, it would make sense for Klopp not to take any risk with Firmino against Tottenham this evening.

Liverpool have enough firepower to beat Tottenham, especially with January signing Luis Diaz in top form.

Yes, of course, we know that Firmino is a very good and important player for Liverpool, but the Reds have done well without him for much of the season.

After all, the 30-year-old has made only nine starts in the Premier League and just two in the Champions League for the Merseyside club this campaign.
