Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Newcastle gem Elliot Anderson helped Bristol Rovers pull off a quite remarkable 7-0 win.

What’s the story?

Well, this is absolutely incredible, to say the least.

Going into the game, Bristol Rovers needed a five-goal swing to take place in order to leapfrog Northampton and take the final automatic promotion slot in League Two.

With just ten minutes remaining in their respective games, Northampton had 80 points to their name with a +21 goal difference, as did Bristol Rovers.

Amazingly, it was Anderson who scored the seventh goal of the game, sparking a pitch invasion at the Memorial Stadium.

The Newcastle connection doesn’t end there.

Joey Barton is currently in charge of Bristol Rovers, and he was forced to grab a microphone in an attempt to ask supporters to get off the pitch!

Barton is also a huge fan of Anderson, having previously called him one “hell of a player”.

Clearly, it was a crazy day in Bristol, one which the Gas supporters will never, ever forget – you can see what Lineker thought of the result below.

It’s safe to say Barton couldn’t have done it without the help of Anderson, who has been likened to Diego Maradona.

The 19-year-old joined the Gas on loan back in January, and scored eight goals in 21 League Two appearances in total, while also providing five assists.

Impressively, the teenager scored five goals in his final six league games of the campaign to give Bristol Rovers their slim chance of automatic promotion, which they took in dramatic fashion earlier today.

Aside from scoring the ultimately crucial seventh goal, Anderson also provided two assists in today’s 7-0 rout of Scunthorpe.

Surely, Eddie Howe has taken notice of the wonderkid’s heroics – in truth, it would be hard for him to ignore them.

Whatever happens in his footballing career from this day on, we’re sure he’ll never have to buy himself a pint in Bristol ever again.
