Speaking on the Leeds That Podcast, football agent Hayden Evans has been discussing Joe Gelhardt.
Evans is a Leeds fan, and a number of his clients are currently on the Whites’ books, but one player he’s a fan of is a youngster who he doesn’t actually represent.
Indeed, Evans was waxing-lyrcial about Gelhardt, and he says that Gelhardt’s agent, who also represented Wayne Rooney, once told him that the 20-year-old was one of the best players he’d ever seen.

Evans shared what Gelhardt’s agent told him about his client.
“I know his agent really well, Paul Stretford who was Wayne Rooney’s agent. When Stret brought him here he told me ‘I’m bring one of the best I’ve ever seen to your club, I’m telling you now,’ and I’ll go by that, we need to nurture him though and not let him burn out.
“His best client at that age would have been Wayne, so he’s comparing him to him.”
Future star
Stretford says that Gelhardt is one of the best he’s ever seen, and coming from a man that represented Wayne Rooney, that’s massive praise.
Interestingly, Gelhardt has been likened to Rooney in the past himself, and to be honest, there are some very obvious similarities between the pair.
They’re both skilful, stocky attackers who are fantastic on the ball, and while Gelhardt isn’t quite as prolific as Rooney was at this age, he is only 20 years old, so that could come in time.
Gelhardt has enjoyed a real breakout season at Leeds, and it looks as though this young man could be an absolute gem for years to come.
