Adrian San Miguel is very much a forgotten man at Liverpool.
The Spanish goalkeeper is lucky if he even makes Jurgen Klopp’s squad these days and with his contract expiring this summer, it’s reasonably certain that he’ll be leaving Anfield.
The former West Ham United star hasn’t played a game for Liverpool in any competition since a Carabao Cup victory over Preston North End way back in October.
But despite his lack of involvement this season, Klopp has revealed that the veteran remains useful.
Liverpool signed Colombia international Luis Diaz from Porto in January and with the 25-year-old’s English not up to par yet, he is relying on Spanish speakers – like Adrian – to help him settle on Merseyside.
And Klopp has told the Reds’ official website that Adrian is ‘great’ at matters such as this.
He said: “OK, we have the Spanish faction, that’s no problem, they are really close and they helped him so much – Thiago, Fab, Ali, Bobby, all these kind of guys, Adrian is great in these aspects.”
Klopp is spot-on.
Adrian, despite not even being a squad player at Liverpool any longer, is a class act.
The 35-year-old is often among the first to congratulate his teammates on social media for achievements that he played no part in.
He isn’t in the squad anymore, but that’s the definition of being a team player and although Liverpool supporters might not miss him, a lot of the players will and that’s testament to his off-the-field contributions.
