Tottenham Hotspur are back in the hunt for Villarreal defender Pau Torres having scouted him in action against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham suddenly have new hope of signing Torres this summer.
If you cast your mind back to last summer, you may recall that Tottenham made a real push to bring Torres to North London.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that Tottenham had a deal agreed for the defender. The deal was seemingly worth less than the £56million release clause in his contract.
Despite an agreement between the two clubs, Torres decided that a move to Tottenham just wasn’t for him.
Torres has since admitted that he rejected Tottenham because he wanted to play in the Champions League with Villarreal.
Villarreal are his hometown team and Torres just didn’t want to miss out on that with the emotional pull keeping him at El Madrigal.
Torres will be glad he made that decision. Villarreal had an incredible Champions League run, dumping Juventus and Bayern Munich out in the knockout stages.
Liverpool was a step too far for Villarreal but they put up an incredible fight as they bowed out in the semi-finals.
It now seems that Tottenham have new encouragement that Torres may join them after all.
Tottenham watched Torres in action against Liverpool on Tuesday night, sending a scout to Spain.

Torres now feels ready to leave Villarreal having had this season in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old is understood to have question marks about his physical capabilities hone it comes to Premier League action, but a move to Tottenham could be ideal.
Torres is naturally left-footed, so he could line up alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier in the Tottenham back three.
That lessens the physical burden somewhat with two other defenders there to help him, whilst allowing Torres to come forward and play out from the back.
This would be a huge coup for Tottenham if they can pull it off, but they won’t want to be snubbed by Torres for the second summer in a row.
