Newcastle United are ramping up their interest in Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma ahead of a potential reunion with boss Eddie Howe.

That’s according to the Daily Mail (05/05, p73), who claim that Newcastle are looking to bring Danjuma to St James’ Park this summer.

It’s suggested that Newcastle have been scouting Danjuma in recent weeks ahead of launching a summer bid.

Danjuma missed Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool through injury as he missed out on a big chance to impress.

Still, Newcastle will have surely seen enough from Danjuma this season to justify a summer bid.

Danjuma, 25, has racked up 16 goals and four assists in 34 games for Villarreal this season.

Playing primarily as a striker, Danjuma can also play out wide and that versatility will be hugely appealing to Newcastle.

It must also be noted that Newcastle boss Howe has already worked with Danjuma.

Howe paid £13.7million to sign Danjuma for Bournemouth in 2019 having seen him excel in Belgium with Club Brugge.

Danjuma has really caught the eye this season, even being called ‘absolutely exceptional’ by pundit Michael Owen.

Newcastle’s interest isn’t anything new; The Sunday Mirror reported last month that the Magpies want to sign Danjuma in a swap deal involving Miguel Almiron.

Villarreal seemingly hold an interest in Paraguayan ace Almiron and Newcastle may be willing to let him go in order to strike a deal for Danjuma.

This would be a major coup for Newcastle given Danjuma’s ability and the fact that other clubs are showing a major interest in Danjuma too.

Liverpool allegedly believe that Danjuma is the ideal replacement for Sadio Mane whenever that time comes.

The problem there is that Luis Diaz is showing that he can be Liverpool’s left winger for a long time, meaning Danjuma may not actually be needed.

Newcastle may now sense an opportunity to swoop in for Danjuma this summer, no doubt hoping that Howe can help them win the race.
