Darren Bent has claimed that Liverpool-bound Fabio Carvalho will be a ‘superstar’ – but believes that he’ll re-join Fulham on loan next season.
In April, Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool were set to sign the 19-year-old prodigious talent, with the Italian journalist later adding that he’s already completed his medical.
After the Cottagers won the Championship this week, having sealed Premier League promotion weeks ago, the Londoners’ vice-chairman Tony Khan appeared to confirm that the Portuguese sensation will be signing for the Reds, after almost signing in January.
It looks only a matter of time before the Anfield outfit confirm that he’s coming this summer.
And although Bent is certain that Carvalho – who scored 11 Championship goals from attacking midfield this season – will be a long-term success at Liverpool, the pundit doesn’t believe he’s good enough for Jurgen Klopp’s first XI for the short term.
He told talkSPORT on May 3: “I like Carvalho. He’s top drawer. If he does go to Liverpool he’ll go back to Fulham because let’s be honest, as good as he is – and he will be a superstar – he’s not getting in that Liverpool front six.”
Honestly, he’s absolutely correct, yes.
Remember, Liverpool are going for an unprecedented quadruple this season.
The standard required to play for the Reds is frightening, so much so that even someone like Harvey Elliott can barely get a game under the German manager right now.
Elliott and Carvalho are the same age and similar players, so if the Liverpool midfielder is struggling then, logically, the Cottagers star might too.
Therefore, yes a loan back to Craven Cottage could and probably would be wise.
