Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Antonio Conte is not in negotiations with anybody, amid speculation about him potentially leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s been another whirlwind week for the Spurs boss who has found himself heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino has just delivered a Ligue 1 title at Parc des Princes but the club’s hierarchy are unhappy with their failure on the Champions League front and another managerial change could be coming at the end of this season.
However, Romano has claimed that Conte is solely focusing on helping Tottenham qualify for the Champions League, revealing he’s been told that finishing in the top four would represent a title for the 52-year-old manager in terms of achievement.
Romano said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel: “He’s now focusing on the Champions League race. I’m told that for Antonio, Champions League for Tottenham this season would be like a title for Antonio Conte. He will say in public ‘this is like a title for me’.”
Is Antonio Conte leaving Spurs?
Well that has certainly been the fear for Tottenham supporters this week.
However, it’s all in the Lilywhites’ hands.
Daniel Levy needs to give Conte a big reason to stay at Spurs this summer and the best thing he can possibly do is give him and Fabio Paratici enough money to shape the squad in their image.
Clearly there’s a number of players who the former Inter Milan manager doesn’t want in North London any longer but, by the same token, there’s going to be many footballers who he does want through the door.
And qualifying for the Champions League could and probably will aid their efforts to sign these targets.
Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League table with five games remaining, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, whom they host in the North London derby on May 12.
