Rob Green hailed Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, for the ‘wonderful ability’ he possesses in between the sticks, as he told CBS Sports (27/04/22 at 7:45 pm).

The former England keeper added that Alisson has this brilliant ability to ‘change direction’ when rushing off his line – he agreed with Jamie Carragher that he is the best in the world at one v ones.

On Sky Sports this week, Carragher showed the numbers that state, when Alisson is one v one, he has stopped the most goals from going in 7.8 – the next best is Robert Sanchez of Brighton who is on 4.8.

Given Liverpool’s high-line, Jurgen Klopp’s side can be prone to being exposed at the back and allowing the opposition those one v one situations – Alisson has faced 47 this season.

When analysing the Brazil international’s game, Green brilliantly shared what the one-time Champions League winner does best.

“Yes, it’s a really interesting point Carra (Carragher) makes,” said Green. “This is something that has come from his Brazilian handball background he played as a kid.

“What he is wonderful at and what I found really hard to do is something which has become more and more prevalent in football these days.

“That’s the ability for goalkeepers to change direction. The temptation is to dive at players’ feet.

“His ability to come out to a player. Then adjust across the box and adjust back again. It’s something, like myself, who wanted to come out and commit. He has that wonderful ability to transition across the box.

“You think about how fast these players are moving. He can come out, stop, adjust and react.”

Alisson would argue that he is the best keeper in the world right now and if he can help Liverpool to the quadruple, then he can stand tall with that claim.

During these next few weeks, the Reds are going to face some of the most nerve-racking matches they have ever been involved in.

No doubt, with the high, aggressive and in-your-face line they will play, there are going to be occasions where they will get caught out.

That’s where Alisson’s magic will come into play and possibly prove to be a difference-maker or game-changer.
