Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Peterborough United talent Ronnie Edwards have been dented with RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund leading the race.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Germany is now looking like a real possibility for Edwards.
It’s claimed that Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are all ahead of Tottenham in the race for Edwards.
Crystal Palace are keen too whilst Edwards even has the support of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson allegedly told United to sign Edwards last summer but the Red Devils didn’t take their former manager’s advice.
Ferguson’s son Darren was in charge of Peterborough at the time and Sir Alex had seemingly seen potential in Edwards.
Darren then called Edwards an ‘incredible talent’ having featured him in Peterborough’s lineup earlier this season.
Edwards has shown major quality and looks set to become a star in the future.
The 19-year-old started out on non-league with Barnet before being plucked by Peterborough in the summer of 2020.
Whilst Edwards isn’t the biggest centre back of all time at 5ft 11in tall, Edwards
Earlier in April, Peterborough director of football Barry Fry confirmed that Tottenham wanted to sign Edwards.

Fry also claimed that major German clubs were interested too, so it seems that his claims are true after all.
Dortmund have enjoyed success with English talents like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham whilst there are high hopes for another English talent in Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
That may make Dortmund favourites but Leipzig have dipped into the English market in years gone by having signed Oliver Burke and Ademola Lookman.
It’s therefore no surprise that those Bundesliga clubs have spotted Edwards too, but Tottenham now face a major battle.
With more homegrown talents needed at Tottenham, Fabio Paratici may need to make a strong push for Edwards.
