Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to add some insight to the news that Jürgen Klopp has extended his contract at Liverpool until June 2026.

What’s the story?

Well, the German was set to leave Anfield in June 2024, although he has now decided to stay on Merseyside for an extra two years.

It comes after Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield last night.

Amazingly, the Reds are now just eight wins away from a potential quadruple, if Manchester City slip up in the Premier League, that is.

Before Liverpool announced the contract news, Romano made a claim about the 54-year-old’s involvement in recruitment at Anfield.

You can see what the reliable Italian journalist tweeted in full below.

So, on that note, who knows if Klopp would’ve penned this new deal if Fenway Sports Group hadn’t sealed the £37m signing of Luis Diaz in January.

Luis Diaz & Jürgen Klopp are a match made in heaven

In our view, Diaz is the perfect attacker for Klopp, and his arrival in January should be earmarked as a massive moment for Liverpool.

The Colombia international fits seamlessly into the German’s idea of “heavy metal” football, as he seems to do everything at 100mph.

Diaz is relentlessly energetic, and provides a large amount of intensity to Liverpool’s attacking play, which was already quite intense as it was.

Liverpool weren’t exactly slowing down in January, but it feels as if the South American’s arrival in winter gave them added momentum to mount the quadruple charge they’re currently involved in.

So far, Diaz has scored three goals, while also providing two assists, in his nine Premier League appearances for the Reds.

In many ways, we may look back on his arrival as one of the biggest decisions in FSG and Klopp’s reign at Liverpool.
