Aston Villa haven’t made any progress on a potential new contract for midfielder Douglas Luiz amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
That’s according to the Birmingham Mail, who claim that talks have not progressed over a new contract for Luis.
Luiz’s Villa deal expires in 2023, meaning Villa may now be under some pressure to sell.
Villa won’t want to see Luiz walk away from the club for nothing next year, so selling this summer seems like the best idea.
Villa can expect a decent return on the £15million they paid to sign Luiz from Manchester City back in 2019.
So just who could move to sign Luiz at the end of the season?
You have to assume that the two biggest suitors will both be from North London.
Arsenal could be Luiz’s destination
Arsenal have been linked with Luiz for a while now. The Gunners were keen in January after missing out on Arthur.
Edu and Mikel Arteta are both big fans of Luiz and Arsenal absolutely need to find another midfielder this summer.
Mohamed Elneny’s contract expires and adding another midfielder to compete with Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga is vital.
Luiz is Premier League-ready and still has potential to improve at the age of just 23. Potentially available at a decent price due to his Villa contract situation, Luiz could be what Arsenal want.

What about Tottenham for Luiz?
Across North London, Tottenham are also tracking Luiz.
The Daily Mail reported that Tottenham failed with a deadline day bid to sign Luiz. Tottenham signed Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur instead.
Bentancur has impressed in the Premier League but Tottenham’s chase of Luiz may not be over yet.
The Telegraph report that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte wants to add two midfielders this summer.
If Tottenham were so keen in January, you would assume that they will still fancy Luiz.
Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by former Villa boss Dean Smith, it’s no surprise that Luiz is attracting interest – and it looks like he may be on the move this summer.
