Newcastle United may have a deal teed up for Aston Villa’s Matt Targett but Leeds United are believed to be interested too.
The Magpies swooped to sign Targett on loan on deadline day having chased left backs throughout January.
Targett has performed well for Newcastle and has certainly lived up to the ‘fantastic’ billing from boss Eddie Howe.
Newcastle can sign Targett permanently for £15million this summer but that decision hasn’t yet been made.
Now, 90Min claim that Leeds are interested in bringing Targett to Elland Road this summer.
Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen with Targett a wanted man off the back of his Newcastle displays.
Howe is believed to be pushing for Targett to arrive permanently and you would imagine Newcastle will support that.
There could be a twist in the tale though.
Football Transfers reported earlier this week that Newcastle still want Atletico Madrid star Renan Lodi.
It’s hard to see Newcastle signing both Targett and Lodi to fight for one left back spot.
Lodi would cost around three times as much as Targett, but was actually wanted by Newcastle before signing Targett in January.
That long-standing interest in Lodi may end up leaving Targett without a deal at St James’ Park.

We would still back Targett as the most likely signing, but you can’t rule out a big splash signing with this Newcastle project.
If Targett does end up being sent back to Villa, it seems that Premier League clubs are queuing up to sign him.
Leeds did pay up for a left back last summer but Junior Firpo really hasn’t impressed.
Targett would be a much safer option at left back for Leeds, even if it means giving up on Firpo already.
This is certainly one to keep an eye on, with Newcastle having first option on Targett. They could easily kill off these rumours or give them more momentum in the coming weeks and months.
Let’s see which it is; we would back a permanent move to Newcastle as things stand.
