Alan Shearer has included Bruno Guimaraes in his Premier League Team of the Week after the Brazil international scored another goal for Newcastle – his fourth since joining from Lyon. He heaped praise on the midfielder.
Bruno, 24, initially struggled to break into Eddie Howe’s side – only making substitute appearances in his first five outings for Newcastle. But he has since started seven of Newcastle’s last eight, having a hand in five goals.
Netting in his first start against Southampton, Bruno also nabbed a brace against Leicester including an injury-time winner. He laid on the assist for Miguel Almiron against Palace, and then one in the 3-0 win over Norwich.
Shearer and Bruno have shared a couple of conversations on Twitter to the delight of Newcastle’s fans – and now, the Toon legend has included him in his TOTW. He also named manager Eddie Howe, and two-goal Joelinton.
Delivering his verdict on the £40million signing from Lyon, Shearer applauded the midfielder: “He is proving to be a wonderful signing for Newcastle and produced another very clever, well-taken goal.”
Shearer on Bruno: Newcastle have got themselves a bargain
Even though he cost a whopping £40million in January, Bruno has already started repaying that fee quite some way. The midfielder has been absolutely crucial in helping the Toon climb as high as ninth place.

It is an incredible turnaround for Newcastle. Having failed to win one of their opening 14 games – no club has ever survived relegation after doing so – the Toon are now in the top half. Howe is performing miracles as boss.
He has used, and timed the usage of Bruno, to perfection. Allowing him to integrate without the pressure on his shoulders for the first five games, he timed his first start perfectly. His goals are a surprise, but important.
