The Cheeky Girls have made a comeback 20 years after they shot to fame with their debut single. So what have they been up to in the last two decades?
It’s clear that 2000’s fashion is making a comeback, like Juicy Couture velour tracksuits and Ed Hardy T-shirts. Therefore, it only makes sense for 2000s music to return as well, right?
Whether you like it or not, it’s already happened, thanks to Gabriela and Monica Irimia, famously known as The Cheeky Girls.
The twin sisters shot to fame at the end of 2002 with their debut single, Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum), and their first track in 15 years dropped last Tuesday (19 April), titled Let’s Have Fun.
With the return of the Romanian pop duo, let’s take a look at what they’ve been up to when they weren’t on stage.

They released six singles after Cheeky Song
Born 31 October 1982, the then-19-year-olds auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals, and although they didn’t win the show, the twins went on to achieve four top 10 hits between 2002 and 2003.
As part of their debut album, PartyTime, they released four singles. Cheeky Song peaked at number 2 in the UK and number 6 in Japan and China; the following two tracks ranked third in the UK, and Have a Cheeky Christmas peaked at number 10 in 2003.
Their next three singles from their second album didn’t match their previous success.

The Cheeky Girls are now in car sales
In 2016, younger sister Monica retrained as a car saleswoman after friend notified her of a vacancy; you can pay her a visit at Lincolnshire’s BMW showroom.
Meanwhile, Gabriela – a makeup artist and lash technician – was employed at Boots’ No7, though she was spotted working at a a Hyundai dealership in York in October 2021.
“I love selling cars,” she told The Sun. “If I sell a good one it feels like I’ve won the lottery.”
In a recent interview, she revealed that she’s “doing really well”, so hopefully both their careers continue to flourish.
They’re in committed relationships
Monica has been married to builder-contractor Shaun Taylor since 2016; they currently reside in Lincolnshire.
For the last two years, Gabriela has been dating a professional bodybuilder called Adam, who she met at the gym. She was previously engaged to former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Öpik in 2008, but they broke up three months after the proposal.
