TuttoMercatoWeb claim Nicolo Zaniolo will not sign a new contract at Roma and Jose Mourinho’s side are willing to cash in to the tune of £42million. Recently, Tottenham and Liverpool have been linked with the Italian talent.
Zaniolo, 22, has been excellent for Roma since the arrival of Mourinho. After suffering numerous injury issues, the Italy star has returned this campaign and sparkled – at times, partnering Tammy Abraham up front.
Able to play as a no.10, even deeper as a number eight or out wide – as well as a striker – Zaniolo’s form has attracted the attention of English clubs. He is about to enter the final two years of his contract at Roma, in June.
The latest report states that he will not sign a new contract at Roma – and therefore, Roma are happy to part company with Zaniolo for a fee of £42million. In February, Roma Live claimed Liverpool and Spurs are keen.
Liverpool, Tottenham boost for Zaniolo: Is he worth north of £40m?
The issue with Zaniolo, is his discipline. While he is an attacking midfielder, winger or striker that scores as many as he creates – 15 goal involvements in his 36 outings this term – he is also prone to a yellow, or a red card.
He has 12 yellow cards, and two red cards this season. Given he has only completed 90 minutes in nine of his 36 games, that will be a concern. His talent is worth £40million, but his discipline surely brings it down.
