Andy Robertson responded when asked about the possibility of Everton being relegated this season – as per BBC Sport’s live coverage. The Liverpool star made it clear the Toffees need to win games in order to survive.

Everton’s 2-0 defeat came after Burnley beat Wolves at Turf Moor on Sunday, meaning that Everton now sit in the bottom three – albeit with a game in hand over the Clarets, who sacked Sean Dyche earlier this month.

Goals from Robertson and Divock Origi saw Liverpool overcome their Merseyside rivals at Anfield, after an improved second-half performance. Frank Lampard has now lost eight of his 12 Premier League games.

Asked about the possibility of no Merseyside derby next season, Liverpool star Robertson discussed Everton’s chances of survival. He simply stated they needed to win games – but is “sure” they will “bounce back”.

“They’re in a dogfight. Burnley won today. They’re fighting. Everton need to win games to stay up. If they do we’ll look forward to more derbies and if they don’t they’ll have to deal with it. I’m sure they’ll bounce back.”

Robertson on Everton: Liverpool star’s verdict simple, but true

The issue for Everton is that the run of games coming up looks terrifying. They next take on Lampard’s old side Chelsea at Goodison Park. A tricky trip to Leicester after that. Watford, Brentford and Palace are next.

Then, they take on Arsenal at The Emirates. Hardly an easy run in – while Burnley face Aston Villa twice, Watford, Tottenham and Newcastle. After today, it seems it is advantage Burnley in looking to stay in the top flight.
