Ledley King has claimed that teams are ‘making it difficult’ for Harry Kane by doubling up on the Tottenham striker, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/22 at 7:35 pm).
On Saturday, for the second game running, Spurs failed to have a shot on target as they recorded a goalless draw at Brentford.
In previous games, the likes of Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski were running riot in front of goal.
But all of that seems to have gone out of the window, as club legend, King, shared what he has noticed about the tactics towards Kane.
“With Harry (Kane), I think teams are sensing that Tottenham like to build up through Harry,” said King.
“They are really doubling up on him, at times. Getting bodies around him and making it difficult. And that seems to have taken Tottenham out of their momentum.”
On one hand, it’s a compliment to Kane that teams are targeting him in such a way because it shows how much of an influence he has on the team.
But, at the end of the day, Spurs can’t continue to rely on their star striker to do the job.
It probably doesn’t help that Antonio Conte plays such a defensive system, but the players still need to get on the front foot a lot more and do the talking themselves.
It does seem as though there is a reliance on Kane to start things off, which is one of the problems, but understandable given they go down that route because he is one of the world’s best.
