Andy Robertson has claimed that ‘kids will now be emulating’ Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, as he told Football Focus.

One of the biggest changes to the modern game has been how the fullbacks operate and Liverpool’s two creators on the flanks are fine examples of that.

It could be argued that two of the best fullbacks in the world are on Merseyside, with one of them having been nurtured from within the club itself.

From that fresh-faced teenager that burst onto the scene to the now hardened-23-year-old trying to win four trophies with his boyhood club this season.

Robertson would have seen the Englishman transform first-hand into one of the world’s best, as he shared his thoughts on his teammate.

“He falls into the category of being too creative to be a fullback,” said Robertson. “But it weirdly suits him.

“He has made it work and he has made it his own decision and I am sure kids now will be emulating him on the playground.

“Everyone talks about his passing ability and his crossing. But it’s the bravery, for me. Any game really. He takes the ball in tight situations. He always tries to create things even when he’s not playing great.

“People think he should play a five-yard pass and play it safe. But instead, he plays a diagonal and ends up creating a goal.”

It’s the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon and it’s a game Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to stamp his authority on.

He would have enjoyed the thumping 4-0 win over Manchester United in midweek and he will be hoping that is now backed up with another three points in this pulsating Premier League title race.

Manchester City thrashed Watford 5-1 on Saturday to move four points clear and switch the pressure back over to their rivals.

Everton have only won once at Anfield since the turn of the century, added to the fact that they are hovering above the relegation zone, so they should have this one in the bag.
