According to Sport, Erik ten Hag is keen to bring Barcelona maestro Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United, amid interest from Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, it was a separate report from Sport which stated that Liverpool are interested in signing the Netherlands international.

Now, Manchester United have joined them in the race, as Ten Hag looks to spend his €250m (£211m) budget on revamping the Red Devils.

De Jong – who has a release clause worth €400m (£337m) at the Camp Nou – is said to be happy at Barcelona, and is enjoying life under Xavi.

However, Sport believe the Dutchman has an excellent relationship with Ten Hag, having played 59 games under the 52-year-old at Ajax.

It is also said that Barcelona could do with a big sale before June 30th to help their financial situation, but they don’t want to sell De Jong.

Sport believe Manchester United are now planning a bid.

So far this season, the 24-year-old has made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals while also providing five assists.

Erik ten Hag could become instant Manchester United hero

If Ten Hag somehow manages to lure his former Ajax playmaker to Old Trafford, beating Liverpool to his signature along the way, he would achieve instant hero status at Old Trafford.

Manchester United and Liverpool are bitter rivals, so it would be big for the supporters at Old Trafford to see a world-class player arrive at the expense of Jürgen Klopp.

Additionally, De Jong has the ability to take the Red Devils to another level with his phenomenal talent, so it would be a concerning move for Manchester United’s Premier League rivals to witness.

Keep an eye on this saga, as anything could happen this summer.
