Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed the Ibrox club are in talks with teenage talent Alex Lowry over a new deal. There have been rumours that the playmaker could move down south, this summer.
Lowry, 18, has been given his first taste of first-team football this season. Making his Rangers debut against Stirling Albion and scoring in the Scottish Cup, he got his first league start and saw out 90 minutes against Livingston.
The youngster, who scored a penalty in Rangers B’s Glasgow Cup penalty-shootout win over Celtic in the week, is out of contract in June 2023. Some reports claim that Newcastle United have had a look at Lowry recently.
But Giovanni van Bronckhorst quickly put those rumours to bed on Friday in his press conference. He underlined the importance and potential of Lowry, and confirmed that there are talks ongoing to renew his contract.

Although slight in frame and still young, Lowry is an incredible talent. Against Celtic, during the 2-2 draw before penalties at Auchenhowie, he looked a class above. He has deserved more game time this term.
But for Lowry, and any other Rangers talent, it is incredibly hard to break through given the importance and must-win mentality of every game. Recently, it is hard to name anyone that has made a proper breakthrough.
Glenn Middleton, perhaps. Calvin Bassey too, but he was signed from Leicester. However, Lowry seems to have a bit of guile, a bit of nastiness alongside his enormous potential. He has a huge chance to make it.
