Aston Villa are eyeing major summer signings this summer – and Steven Gerrard has been spotted watching Marseille in action.
Gerrard’s men are in dire form right now; four defeats in a row mean Villa’s season is coming to a rather drab end.
Gerrard will want major reinforcements this summer to take Villa where he wants them to go, with transfer plans in mind.
It seems that Villa are looking towards somebody in France as Gerrard, Johan Lange and Christian Purslow were all on a scouting mission.
On Wednesday night, the Villa trio were spotted at the Stade Velodrome to watch Marseille in action against Nantes.
Marseille ran out 3-2 winners in an entertaining game, but Villa fans will just be wondering who they could sign.
The prime guess has to be Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.
The Daily Mail reported in January that Villa had spoken to the agents of Marseille ace Kamara.
So had Leeds United and Manchester United though, with Kamara out of contract at the end of the season.
Kamara, 22, played the full 90 minutes for Marseille against Nantes, meaning Gerrard got to see plenty of him.
Gerrard is keen to bring a new holding midfielder to Villa Park and Kamara absolutely fits the bill.
Hailed as a ‘phenomenon’ by former Marseille teammate Rolando, Kamara has long been tipped for stardom.
Marseille have understandably attempted to extend Kamara’s contract but it looks like he’s ready to leave his hometown club.
Kamara is already on the verge of one big decision, switching his international allegiance to play for Senegal instead of France.
Deciding his next club will be difficult with so many clubs keen, but Villa will be hoping that this scouting mission pays off in the coming months.
