YNW Melly gives prison release update: “I’ll be home this year”

Rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Maurice Demons, has given fans an update on when he could be released from prison.

The 22-year-old, who is known for his tracks Murder on My Mind, Mixed Personalities and Suicidal, was arrested and charged with double murder in February 2019.

This came after he was accused of shooting and murdering two other rappers, who were said to be his close friends, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in October 2018.

He has pleaded not guilty and his trial began on April 4th. YNW Melly is currently in custody at Broward County Jail in Florida, where he has been since 2019.

Whilst incarcerated, the rapper is still active on social media and he took to Twitter this week to claim that he could be getting released very soon…

YNW Melly speaks out on prison release

On Tuesday, YNW Melly took to his official Twitter to claim that he will be released from prison “this year”.

He posted a photo of new photo of himself in the Broward County Jail and wrote: “It’s bout that time 🥶 y’all can uncross y’all 🥜 i’ll be home this year 💙🌍.”

This isn’t the first time he’s hinted that he’ll be coming home soon. In February, he wrote: “I’ll be home soon to give y’all all this new gas.”

His mother claimed he’ll be home in May

The rapper continues to claim is innocence, and so do his family.

In March, YNW Melly’s mother Jamie King and brother YNW Bslime claimed that he will be “home in May”.

Speaking on the We In Miami podcast on March 25th, his mother was asked when he will be home, to which she replied: “May.”

His brother than added that “if a jury is picked fast,” he could be home in late April.

As reported by Sun Sentinel, lawyers are scheduled to start picking the jury on Wednesday (April 20th).

YNW Melly has phone rights revoked

Just days before he claimed that he’ll be home “this year,” the rapper revealed that he has had his phone rights revoked.

“To all my loved ones and close friends I wanted to let everyone know, that my phone privilege have been revoked i am no longer allowed to call or have video visitation,” he wrote.

“That is the reason why no one has received any calls from me but do not worry I am in great spirits,” the rapper continued.
