Portuguese outlet A Bola claim Rangers have sent Ibrox scouts to watch Brazilian talent Antony Alves, as he continues to impress on loan at top-tier Portuguese side Arouca. The youngster is on loan from Joinville-SC.
Antony, 20, joined Liga NOS side Arouca last summer and has since clocked up 17 appearances for the relegation-threatened side – scoring two goals. He is expected to return to Joinville this summer, but Rangers are interested.
The Gers are said to have scouted the winger – who can play on either flank and as a second striker. TransferMarkt says he shares the same agent as Real Madrid ace Eder Militao, who joined Madrid for £43million (GOAL).
Rangers are believed to have been watching Antony, and have gathered some preliminary information on the winger ahead of the summer. But they are not alone, with second-placed FC Basel also taking a look at him.
Rangers eye Antony: Gers need to strengthen wide areas at Ibrox
Amad Diallo is expected to leave the Gers in the summer and return to Manchester United. It means Rangers have Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright – with Hagi injured until the summer. Scott Arfield can play there.
Joe Aribo can also play out wide, but he is better as a 10. Rangers need more depth out wide, better quality, and Antony would give them a player happy to wait for his chance but at the same time, adding depth on the flanks.
