Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Arsenal transfer target, Marcus Rashford, ‘hasn’t improved’ at Manchester United since he was 19, as he told talkSPORT (20/04/22 at 9:10 am).
On Tuesday night, Rashford started for Manchester United as they were outclassed, outfought, humiliated and taken to the cleaners by Liverpool.
If there is a team that are experts at ‘walking football’, then those in Man United colours, with Rashford playing upfront, are pure experts at that.
That’s why it has to be questioned why Arsenal are keen on signing the 24-year-old this summer, with suggestions that he could be looking to leave Old Trafford, as reported by 90 min.
After watching Liverpool put four past Man United at Anfield yesterday, Redknapp didn’t hold back in what he was seeing from Rashford.
“I watched Marcus Rashford,” said Redknapp. “When Fabinho played a ball past him, he just let him run off him. The next one came and he still let it run off him.
“I am thinking ‘that’s your job’. These are basic things. You have to go and chase down that defensive midfield player. And I think it’s a tempo that needs to be set by the manager.
“Marcus hasn’t improved since he was 19 because no-one has really worked with him. No-one has told him what to do as a footballer. He hasn’t been given the right basics about how to improve.”

That fresh-faced teenager that broke onto the scene against Arsenal all them years ago is the shadow of that player today.
Rashford’s touch, spark and speed in his game has gone out of the window. Added with that fight and aggression you would expect any professional to produce on a weekly basis.
It’s probably best that Man United do sell him off when the transfer window re-opens because he is part of the bigger problem at Old Trafford.
Whilst there is talk of Arsenal being keen to sign him up, in truth, Mikel Arteta is better off looking elsewhere.
