Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports that Liverpool ace Mo Salah is the “greediest” player he has ever seen – after the Reds star got two goals in Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield.
Salah, 29, was back to his normal ways after a six-game blip of failing to score a goal from open play – but he has taken his tally to 30. The Egyptian also laid on his 12th assist of the campaign, his most-creative by far.
Liverpool ran riot in front of their own fans against a woeful Manchester United side that looked bereft of confidence, ideas, belief or anything to play for. Salah was the star of the show, while Sadio Mane also sparkled.
Mane played as a nine, with Salah off the right and Luis Diaz from the left – who opened the scoring after a neat square from Salah. Souness spoke about Salah after the match, labelling him greedy but a “truly, great player”.
“He’s the greediest player I’ve ever seen. He’s a great player, but I have to say, he is the greediest player I’ve ever seen,” Souness told Sky Sports in his analysis of Liverpool’s comprehensive 4-0 win after the match.
“He is a truly great player, but we had the incident a couple of years ago when he was falling out with Mane because he wasn’t passing – but him not scoring for six games is a minor blip.”
Souness on Salah: Liverpool star needs to be selfish to shine
The rest of the Liverpool squad will not care a jot that Salah is greedy or selfish, if he continues to score 30 or more goals a season. The Egyptian’s movement, finishing, strength, and composure is among the world’s best.
Despite his recent drought, Salah’s incredible first touch – described as “out of this world” by Dietmar Hamann – was like a player that had scored a hat-trick in his previous game. His finish was not bad either.
His second had a deflection but the idea was there. Salah is greedy, he is selfish in the final third – but he has backed it up on the big occasion and with the amount of goals. He has every right to be greedy.
