Fulham are looking to sign Bolton Wanderers’ former West Ham United starlet Dapo Afolayan after sealing their return to the Premier League, as reported by Bolton News.
We’ve been here before.
In both 2018 and 2020, Fulham splashed a considerable amount of cash post-promotion and ended up right back where they started.
The challenge facing Marco Silva and co this time around, then, is to strike a balance between strengthening a squad who made mincemeat of the Championship while retaining the spirit, togetherness and consistency they showed while picking up an impressive 26 wins in 42 second-tier games.
Who will Fulham sign?
If Fulham are simply too good for the division they found themselves in during 2021/22, well you could probably say the same about Afolayan.
The late-blooming 24-year-old, who joined Bolton after making just one appearance in three seasons at West Ham, has six assists, 14 goals and countless Man of the Match awards to his name this term.
According to Bolton News, Afolayan’s electrifying displays have been noticed by Fulham and Cardiff City. What’s more, the one-time Chelsea kid is only the second Bolton player in the last 20 years to score more than a dozen goals in a league campaign.
“I love the variation in his game,” former EFL stalwart Jobi McAnuff told Sky a few months ago. “Which, for me, is a big improvement certainly from when I saw him last season
“He’s got that presence and really expressing himself, he’s picking up lovely pockets inside the pitch. He’s taking people on, a few lovely through balls. So it’s a real nice mix and variation and growth that I’ve certainly seen in his game.
“He looked like a player playing with absolute top confidence.”
Fulham are also reportedly keen on PSV’s Mexican midfielder Erick Gutierrez, Internacional’s Caio Vidal and Marco Silva’s former Olympiakos man Arthur Masuaku. Not to mention another ex-West Ham starlet in Josh Cullen.
Fulham will complete the bargain signing of Manor Solomon soon too.
