Speaking on The Redmen TV Podcast, Neil Jones has been speaking about Fabio Carvalho’s impending move to Liverpool and why it’s taken months for this one to progress.

Carvalho very nearly signed for the Reds in January on deadline day, but unfortunately for Liverpool, the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.

It was quickly reported that Liverpool had the frameworks in place to bring the midfielder to Anfield in the summer, but for one reason or another, nothing concrete was reported until earlier this month when Fabrizio Romano seemed to confirm the move.

Jones says that this move took a while because Liverpool were comfortable that it would get done and that they were more than happy for Carvalho to have a look at his other options.

What’s been said?

Jones shared what he knows about the timings on this deal.

“At the start of Feb it looked like something was agreed there, and the information I got was that they could have forced that move through more in January, but they were comfortable with how they’d conducted themselves and that they had the goodwill of the player, the agent and Fulham, so they were happy for him to go and have a look elsewhere,” Jones said.

Know what they’re doing

From the outside looking in, letting Carvalho assess his options seems like a risky move. After all, the likes of Real Madrid were monitoring him.

However, it’s fair to say that Liverpool know what they’re doing when it comes to this type of thing.

The player had given them positive signs, they already have a great relationship with Fulham through their dealings for Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams and Harry Wilson, and the agent seemingly gave them positive signs.

It may have taken a little while to get over the line, but patience is a virtue for a reason.
