Newcastle United are turning their attention to Brentford striker Ivan Toney as they target another goalscorer this summer.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Newcastle would like to bring Toney back to St James’ Park.
Newcastle are desperate to add another striker this summer even after signing Chris Wood in January.
The idea would be to add Toney to Wood and Callum Wilson, giving Eddie Howe three proven Premier League strikers to choose from.
Brentford would allegedly want upwards of £30million for Toney. That’s no great shock after paying £5million rising to £10million in 2020.
Since then, Toney has hit 47 goals in 84 games – including 12 in the Premier League.
Toney has been a threat to Premier League defenders all season long but Brentford allegedly know he wants a big move this summer.
Newcastle may be able to present that opportunity – but whether Toney would be keen is another matter.
Toney could now copy Dan Burn with Newcastle return
Newcastle swooped to sign Toney from Northampton Town in 2015 but only gave him four appearances.
Rafael Benitez then sanctioned a £650,000 sale to Peterborough United in 2018 – a deal that looks terrible now.

Toney heading back to Newcastle would mean another player coming back to Tyneside after the January deal for Dan Burn.
Burn was in the Newcastle youth ranks and was brought back from Brighton in January.
Toney could now follow suit by heading back to Newcastle, though he did celebrate in front of Magpies fans by kissing the Brentford badge.
Toney did though add that Newcastle still hold a place in his heart, meaning he could be tempted into a return.
Compared to Didier Drogba at Brentford, Toney has become a much better player since Newcastle sold him – and they now face paying 50 times what they sold him for just four years ago.
