Jonjo Shelvey has been speaking to Andy Sixsmith about life at Newcastle, as the Magpies enjoy a positive end to the season under Eddie Howe.
Newcastle have won nine of their last 13 Premier League games in what has been a stunning run of form, and they are now all but safe from relegation.
Interestingly, when speaking to Sixsmith, Shelvey appeared to suggest he knows his days on Tyneside are numbered.
What’s the story?
Well, despite his obvious talent, the England international is aware that even he isn’t good enough to survive being replaced by another expensive import like Bruno Guimaraes.
Speaking to Sixsmith, the £12m man said: “I’m not thick. I know this club is going to evolve and go only one way. But while I’m here, I just need to keep progressing, get the manager to get the best out of me and repay that with performances. Hopefully I can be here for a good few years.”

It goes without saying that Newcastle will look to spend their newfound riches on improvements across the squad, so everyone – with the exception of a few – could be replaced.
All Newcastle can ask is for those still at St James’ Park to give their best, which is exactly what Shelvey and others are doing.
With the risk of being replaced looming over them, it seems a few Magpies stars have upped their game in recent weeks.
Who could replace Jonjo Shelvey at Newcastle?
There have already been a few names mentioned as potential additions to the midfield department at Newcastle.
According to le10sport, Lyon maestro Lucas Paqueta – a close friend of Bruno Guimaraes – is a target for Howe.

Additionally, Jesse Lingard, who was close to joining in January, is said to have an offer on the table from Newcastle, as he becomes a free agent this summer.
Interestingly, Paul Pogba has even been mentioned as a target, with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire in June.
Newcastle clearly have lofty ambitions, but as long as Shelvey continues to give 100%, he will be fondly remembered on Tyneside.
