Ian Wright has claimed that Tottenham ‘know how to embarrass a pundit’ after their 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday, as he told Premier League Productions (16/04/22 at 2:30 pm).
The Arsenal legend added that he was speaking highly of Spurs before the game, only for them to produce a ‘tepid’ display against Brighton.
In previous matches, Antonio Conte’s players have scored goals galore, including nine from their last two matches.
But, this time around, the Champions League-chasing side didn’t even manage an effort on target against a well-organised Brighton team.
After the game, Wright was pretty critical of how Conte opted to set his team up yesterday.
“First thing I have got to say,” said Wright. “Tottenham know how to embarrass a pundit, that’s for sure. The way we were talking about them at the start of the game. I didn’t think they were going to set-up up the way that they did.
“They set up, for me, like an away side. You always have to give a team like Brighton credit because Graham Potter’s teams are always organised.
“The problem they do have is the finishing and not taking their chances. You’re not going to see them score more than one goal. That’s why I thought, if Spurs scored a couple, then maybe they don’t lose the game.
“I thought Tottenham were tepid. They aren’t passing the ball from midfield. Not pressing them from the front. They are dropping deep and Bissouma is having time to turn in midfield. I don’t know how Tottenham were supposed to build a progressive attack. I don’t know what was happening.”

This is something that Spurs clearly have to move on from, as soon as possible, because only weeks remain before that fourth place in the Premier League table is going to be taken up.
It wasn’t so long ago that Arsenal were riding that wave, but they have since suffered three Premier League defeats on the bounce.
Tottenham sure don’t want to be in that situation, as their front three, in particular, Harry Kane, had an off-day against Brighton.
Perhaps the best thing to come out of yesterday’s defeat was the fact that their north London rivals were hit by the same punches, but this time at the hands of Southampton.
